2009 Fire/EMS Cadet Program: How to Apply 
 
STEP PROCEDURE
Step One:
Pick up an application package at one of three locations during normal business hours of 9:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, starting December 8, 2008. Application materials include detailed instructions on how to fill out the application form and definitions for various required educational status and income status terms.
 
Applications are available for pickup at three Locations:

Step Two:  Gather required supporting documentation
Step Three: Fill out application. Detailed instructions are included with the application materials.
Step Four: 
Submit completed application and required support documents in person during the application submission period: Monday through Friday, February  2- 27, 2009 from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Applications will be accepted at one location only and must be submitted in person to:

The order of submission of applications may be considered in the selection process.

Interested candidates are encouraged to submit their applications as early as

possible.(Applications will be accepted February  2-27, 2009.)

Step Five:  Take written basic skills assessment test at Department of Employment Services Office of Youth Programs.
Step Six:
Eligible applicants with highest scores on basic skills assessment test are contacted by the DC Fire/EMS Department to begin their pre-hire screening process. The minimum applicant requirements for the 2009 Fire/EMS Cadet Program are available here.

Selected applicants will be notified in September 2009. Approximately 35 candidates will be selected.
Step Eight: 

2009 Fire/EMS Cadet Program begins in October 2009
